New and Improved GE Silicone II* Caulk
Product Overview
For decades, the GE Silicone II* family of caulks has been working hard for homeowners and pros. But now, these reformulated products are working even harder. From weatherizing a home and saving energy dollars to protecting kitchens and baths from water and mold to quickly creating beautiful finishes for the most important paint jobs, the new and improved family of GE Silicone II* caulks is everything a home needs.
Following is more information about the key features and benefits that make GE Silicone II caulks superior to other caulking products.
Ready Faster = Increased Convenience, Speed, and Efficiency
Ready for Water
3 Hour Shower-Ready: The shower doesn't have to be off-limits for a full day!
3 Hour Rain-Ready: If rain is in the forecast, it's okay to caulk outside!
The GE Silicone II* family of caulk develops strength and adhesion quickly so it can be exposed to water in as few as three hours. Some caulk requires up to 24 hours or longer before it can be exposed to water. If not, the rain may wash away the caulk and homeowners' hard work. For homeowners trying to squeeze home maintenance projects into the weekend or pros who are looking to move to the next job, GE Silicone II* can decrease the waiting time, helping increase convenience, speed, and efficiency.
Ready for Paint
30 Minute Paint-Ready: No time is lost when using Silicone II Paintable Silicone.
GE Silicone II* Paintable Silicone combines the superior durability and adhesion performance of 100 percent silicone with the paintability of acrylic. The caulk can be painted with a brush or roller in just 30 minutes, or spray-painted immediately. Some caulk requires as long as 24 hours to dry before painting. Speed on one job gives homeowners or pros the ability to move on to the next project!
Defy the Harsh Effects of Mother Nature: Sun-/Freeze-Proof
The outside of a home is exposed to harsh outdoor elements throughout the year. Extreme heat, the sun's UV rays, and freezing temperatures can cause acrylic caulk to lose its flexibility and degrade. The GE Silicone II* permanent flexibility keeps it from breaking down so it can protect a home as it settles or as the seasons change and joints expand and contract. This movement can cause degraded acrylic caulk to crack and crumble over time, leaving gaps for air and water to seep through. Those leaks can lead to water damage, mold growth, and higher energy bills.
Keep Away Mold and Mildew
5 Year Mold-Free Product Protection: Mold is not only an unsightly and embarrassing problem to have around a tub or shower, but it may also lead to health problems.
GE Silicone II* Kitchen & Bath's five-year mold-free product protection helps keep the cured caulk mold- and mildew-free and looking clean for five years, with regular cleaning. Some caulk may claim limited protection, but GE Silicone II* Kitchen & Bath is formulated for increased protection.
NAHB Certification
GE Silicone II* caulk has received the NAHB Research Center National Green Building Standard™ Certification. It is the first, and currently the only, caulk to attain the certification. Visit www.greenapprovedproducts.com for details.
All GE Silicone II caulk is 100 percent silicone.
Unlike acrylic, silicone is permanently:
- Waterproof: Silicone is impervious to water, meaning water can't get through it and will never break it down. Once cured, it does not change or degradeno shrinking, hardening, cracking, or crumbling. Even extreme temperatures, which often cause acrylic caulk to lose flexibility and degrade over time leaving gaps for water to pass, do not affect silicone.
- Flexible: Silicone stretches and compresses with joint movement as a house moves and settles. It remains permanently flexible and does not harden over time, which causes acrylic caulk to breakagain, leaving cracks and gaps for air and water to pass.
- Shrink-proof: Silicone continues to fill the gap or crack as when first applied, helping prevent cracks from re-forming.
- Crack-proof: Silicone remains unaffected by extreme heat and the sun, which causes acrylic caulk to crack over time.
A Silicone II product for all your needs.
